Hakan Fidan Urges Stronger Response to Gaza

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized on Monday that the most immediate solution to alleviate the ongoing hardship in Gaza is to bring the current negotiations to a resolution.

Speaking candidly, he stated, "We are at a point where humanity has completely failed the test on the Palestinian issue, on the Gaza issue."

He stressed that all diplomats are conscious of this failure, noting that diplomatic tools have now been exhausted.

Following an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Fidan declared that it is now imperative to adopt "different actions and measures."

According to him, the international community needs to exhibit a much firmer stance, as the system addressing the situation in Palestine and Gaza has become, in his words, "completely bankrupt."

Türkiye, which currently chairs the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, was represented by Fidan at this high-level gathering.

Fidan underscored that the deliberations held during the confidential session, along with the topics explored in subsequent one-on-one discussions, marked significant progress in deepening determination, agreement, and solidarity among Muslim nations toward addressing the issues in Gaza and Palestine.

Highlighting the importance of unity ahead of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, Fidan explained, "As we near the (UN) General Assembly week, it was important for us that Islamic countries take a position on the Palestinian issue with one voice, one mind, and one fist..."

He called for a cohesive stance, clarity in their perspectives, and the introduction of fresh initiatives to the global stage, portraying Muslim nations as the rightful advocates of the Palestinian cause.

He concluded by noting that a resolution discussed comprehensively during the closed-door session had been collectively approved by all participating nations.
