Sweden Inspects Suspected Russian Shadow Fleet Vessel Off Its Coast

(MENAFN) The Swedish Coast Guard has boarded a ship off the southern coast near Trelleborg on Sunday, amid suspicions that it may be linked to Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, according to reports.

Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin says the vessel, identified as Jin Hui, is believed to be operating under a false flag and may be part of a network used to bypass international restrictions.

"The Coast Guard has today boarded another vessel suspected of being part of the Russian shadow fleet. The vessel is named Jin Hui and is suspected of sailing under a false flag," Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin said on US social media platform X.

Authorities also raise concerns about the ship’s seaworthiness and question whether it has valid insurance coverage, as stated by reports.

Bohlin further notes that Jin Hui is already included on sanctions lists issued by the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine, according to reports.
