Trump Set to Sign AI Safety, Cybersecurity Executive Order

(MENAFN) The Trump administration is preparing to issue a sweeping executive order targeting both cybersecurity and artificial intelligence safety this week, media reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The directive, in its current form, is structured around at least two core pillars: cybersecurity and what insiders are calling "covered frontier models" — a designation that could reshape how cutting-edge AI systems are developed and deployed in the United States.

On the cybersecurity front, the order is designed to fortify the Pentagon and other national security agencies, accelerate cyber workforce hiring, and harden critical infrastructure — including hospitals and banks — against digital threats. It would also push for greater information sharing on security breaches between the AI industry and federal government.

The frontier AI component would introduce multiple layers of government scrutiny to determine what qualifies as a "covered frontier model," requiring such systems to undergo official review before any public release.

Perhaps most consequentially, the order is expected to establish a "voluntary framework" requiring AI developers to share new models with federal authorities at least 90 days ahead of public launch, while also granting access to select critical infrastructure providers.

A White House official, however, moved swiftly to tamp down the reporting — dismissing the circulating details as "speculation," and stressing that any formal announcement would come directly from President Trump.
