Saudi, Iran, China urge for UN-led Yemen peace plan

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia, Iran, and China on Tuesday reaffirmed their support for a comprehensive, UN-sponsored political solution in Yemen, calling for the conflict to be resolved under internationally recognized frameworks.

The statement followed the third meeting of the Saudi-Chinese-Iranian trilateral committee in Tehran, which reviewed progress on the 2023 Beijing Agreement that restored diplomatic ties between Riyadh and Tehran after a seven-year rupture. The meeting was chaired by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu.

The three countries emphasized their commitment to implementing the Beijing Agreement in full and strengthening regional relations in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also called for an immediate halt to Israeli actions in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, and condemned violations of Iran’s territorial integrity.

Regarding Yemen, the trio “reaffirmed their support for a comprehensive political solution that aligns with internationally recognized principles under UN auspices,” highlighting the ongoing civil war following the Houthi takeover of Sanaa in 2014.

Saudi Arabia and Iran praised China’s continued mediation role, while China reaffirmed its readiness to support and encourage steps by the two countries to advance bilateral relations and regional cooperation. The committee also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in political and economic fields to strengthen peace, security, and prosperity across the region.

This meeting follows previous deputy-minister level trilateral discussions held in December 2023 in Beijing and November 2024.
