South Korea’s Lee Public Support Dips to 67.0 Percent

(MENAFN) South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s public support fell sharply last week, with his approval rating sliding 4.2 percentage points to 67.0 percent, according to a weekly survey released Monday.

The share of respondents disapproving of Lee’s handling of state affairs rose 4.1 points to 31.8 percent, based on computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) conducted by local pollster Flower Research.

Backing for the ruling liberal Democratic Party also weakened, dropping 3.3 points to 53.3 percent. In contrast, the conservative opposition People Power Party gained ground, climbing 3.5 points to 27.6 percent.

Minor parties showed little movement: the left-leaning Rebuilding Korea Party registered 2.6 percent support, while the rightist New Reform Party stood at 2.5 percent.

A separate automated response system (ARS) survey by Flower Research found Lee’s approval rating edged down 0.7 points to 63.0 percent compared with the previous week.

Both the CATI and ARS polls were conducted between Friday and Saturday, sampling 1,004 and 1,005 voters respectively. Each survey carried a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level.
