Greenland Says “No Thank You” to Trump’s Hospital Ship Offer

(MENAFN) Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has firmly turned down US President Donald Trump’s offer to send a hospital ship to the Arctic island, emphasizing that Greenland already provides free healthcare for its citizens.

Trump had said on Saturday that the US, working with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, would dispatch a “great hospital boat” to care for Greenland’s “many people who are sick, and not being taken care of.”

Nielsen responded on Facebook: “It will be a no thank you from here,” stressing that Greenland’s public health system meets the population’s needs and that any dialogue should respect the island’s domestic decisions.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen supported Nielsen’s stance, stating that Greenland does not require unsolicited aid, with citizens receiving medical services either locally or in Denmark.

Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, citing national security concerns regarding China and Russia, while mocking the territory’s defenses. Though he recently framed a security agreement with NATO chief Mark Rutte, Denmark remains cautious, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warning that Trump is “very serious” about annexation.
