Mauritania Denounces US Envoy’s Comment on Israeli Control of Middle East

(MENAFN) Mauritania strongly criticized remarks by the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, about potential Israeli control over the entire Middle East, calling them inconsistent with international law and the United Nations Charter, according to reports.

In an official statement, the Mauritanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad reaffirmed that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip are occupied Palestinian territories under international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The ministry stressed that “any attempt to impose a reality contrary to international law in these territories is rejected and considered ‘null and void.’”

Mauritania also reiterated its firm backing for the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In a controversial interview with podcaster Tucker Carlson released on Friday, Huckabee asserted that Israel has a “biblical right” to claim control over the entire Middle East, or at least most of the region.
