US Inflation Climbs to Highest Level in Over Three Years

(MENAFN) The annual inflation rate in the United States rose to 4.2% in May, marking its highest level since April 2023, according to official data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday.

The latest figures show that inflation has increased for the third month in a row, rising from 3.8% recorded in April 2026.

A breakdown of the data indicates that energy prices experienced the sharpest rise, increasing by 23.5%, while food inflation stood at 3.1%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in May, slightly lower than the previous month’s 0.6% increase.

The continued upward trend highlights persistent price pressures across key sectors of the US economy, particularly in energy markets, which remain the primary driver of inflation growth.
